The Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office has released new information about the weekend death of , the 27-year-old Cherokee County man whose body was found Saturday near a campsite.
Lt. Wesley Burnett, spokesman for the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office, said today that Holloway's wife reported him missing just before 7 p.m. Friday.
"She and her husband and two children had gotten to the campsite the previous evening," he said in a news release. "When they awoke on June 8, Joey indicated he was going for a walk. Joey never returned, so Sylvia (Holloway) called law enforcement."
Fire personnel from Lumpkin County and tracking dogs from Dawson and Forsyth Counties began searching for the man, a Waleska resident.
And early Saturday, cousin Natasha Cato started asking for the public's help. She posted flyers with Holloway's image on Facebook and local news sites.
But by 1 p.m. Saturday, Burnett said, Holloway's body was found about a half-mile from the campsite on Forest Service Road 28-1 off Camp Wahsega Road.
Cato confirmed as much in a Sunday email to Canton-Sixes Patch.
"Yes, Joey was found beside the creek where he was fishing," she wrote. "Thanks for your concern."
