Fire Destroys Southeast Cherokee Home

A caller told a Cherokee County dispatcher they could see flames shooting from the home and could hear people screaming for help.

A home in extreme southeast Cherokee County was destroyed in a fire Saturday evening.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the call at around 11:30 p.m. May 3 at 235 Silver Birch Court, located near Holbrook Campground in the unincorporated Alpharetta sector of the county. 

The caller told Cherokee County E-911 that flames were "coming out of the residence and they could hear people screaming for help," according to Cherokee fire's press release.

When firefighters arrived onto the scene, they discovered the two story home fully involved. The residents of the home, an adult male and female, were able to escape the blaze with their dogs. 

"According to one of the residents, she had gotten up to go to the bathroom when she noticed the sun room full of smoke," the agency said, adding the woman said they'd been remodeling their home.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
