Fire Destroys Home

The fire occurred this morning on Spriggs Trail in northeastern Cherokee County.

A Wednesday morning fire destroyed a home in northeastern Cherokee County, an official said this afternoon.

, with assistance from fire departments in Pickens County, responded to the fire at 830 Spriggs Trail after 10 a.m., Cherokee Fire spokesman Tim Cavender said in a news release.

"Firefighters arrived on the scene to find a single story house heavily involved with flames and heavy smoke coming from the roof," he said. "Firefighters had to do a water shuttle since a hydrant was not located nearby. As a safety measure, Cherokee County firefighters kept spraying water on a compressor, that was located near the fire, to keep in cool and prevent it and from exploding."
