Early Morning Fire Near Canton Injures Two

A man and a woman both received second-degree burns in the blaze.

A man and woman suffered second degree burns in an early Saturday morning fire near Canton.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services personnel were dispatched to a fire at 11258 Bells Ferry Road just south of Butterworth Road near Canton shortly after 2:15 a.m. 

Fire fighters arrived on the scene and discovered heavy flames coming from the one-story home. The two occupants inside were awaken by a smoke alarm, but suffered injuries from the blaze.

A 36-year-old man received second-degree burns to his shoulders and a 31-year-old woman also received second-degree burns to her left shoulder.

Both were transported by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta where they are being treated for their injuries.

The home was destroyed in the blaze.

Cherokee County fire officials are currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
