CORRECTION (2:30 p.m., Tuesday): According to Luca Garovi's adopted mother, he was a resident of Peoria, AZ and not California. Garovi was working with the Swiss embassy in Atlanta at the time of his death. Garovi was originally from Bern, Switzerland.
UPDATE (11:40 a.m.): The Georgia State Patrol has identified the driver of the gold Ford Explorer as 28-year-old Luca Garovi of Orcutt, CA.
ORIGINAL STORY: The driver of a Ford Explorer was killed on Interstate 575 northbound between Canton and Ball Ground in a single-vehicle accident on Sunday afternoon, authorities say.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the Explorer left the right side of the roadway at Bethany Road and struck a bridge pillar, killing the driver.
The Georgia State Patrol has yet to contact the driver's next of kin, who are currently out of the country. Once the driver's relatives are identified, authorities say they will release the name of the driver. According to the Georgia State Patrol, identification could be made as soon as Monday.
