Child's Body Found in Lake Allatoona

The body of Corday Dimilo Duffy, 6, of College Park was recovered about 25 to 30 feet from the shore in about four to five feet of water.

The body of a six-year-old boy was discovered in Lake Allatoona early Saturday morning in western Cherokee County.

Corday Dimilo Duffy of College Park was recovered about 25 to 30 feet from shore in four to five feet of water, said Cherokee Sheriff's Office Spokesman Lt. Jay Baker.

Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office around 8:15 p.m. Friday, June 13 responded to a missing child call at the Sweetwater Campground, which is located off Highway 20 west of Canton.

"The campsite is very close to the water’s edge, but Corday was never seen in the water," Baker added.

There was a large log leading from shore into the water near where the child's body was located.

"It appears he may have walked out on the log and then fell in water just over his head," the spokesman said.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Army Corps of Engineers, Georgia State Patrol and Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services all converged on the scene to help find the missing child.

Additionally, the fire department’s Search and Rescue Team and its Dive Team combed the lake's waters as part of their search efforts.

While there is no indication of foul play, an autopsy will be performed in the coming days by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Crime Lab, the sheriff's office said.
