Police are investigating a single vehicle accident in which an SUV flipped several times on Interstate 575 in Canton on Thursday.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the single vehicle accident at around 2:15 p.m. on the northbound side of the interstate near Exit 16.

Once EMTs and paramedics arrived onto the scene, they immediately began checking for injuries on the driver and toddler inside the vehicle.

Preliminary reports indicate the driver, a 23-year-old woman, and her 3-year-old passenger were inside a black Ford Explorer when the vehicle flipped "several times" and landed on its side, Cherokee fire said in a news release.

The woman complained of an ankle injury and the baby, who was strapped inside a car seat, was unharmed.

Both patients were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta where they were evaluated.

The accident remains under investigation.

Ah, for the old days when 575 wasn't there, Canton was a nice little town, and Hickory Rd. was gravel. A pretty good number of new Cherokee county residents were conceived in the back seat of a car down in "thousand acres" , now known as Towne Lake. I bet some of you remember that. :)
