Cherokee Narcotics Agents Help Arrest Alleged Forsyth Meth Trafficker

Authorities said the street value of the confiscated drugs is estimated at $33,600.

Cherokee County law enforcement officials recently participated in a methamphetamine trafficking bust in Forsyth County.

Pedro Aguilar-Lopez, 22, of Rosemont Parkway in Roswell, was taken into custody on Tuesday by the Narcotics Unit of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and charged with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

The arrest was part of a controlled buy, according to investigators. Just before 3 p.m. deputies stopped Aguilar-Lopez, who traveled to Forsyth County with the one-half pound of methamphetamine in his 2004 Acura TL, as he pulled into a business at The Collection at Forsyth on Peachtree Parkway.

Following his arrest, deputies searched his car that resulted in locating the drugs. Aguilar-Lopez then admitted to having additional methamphetamine at his home in Roswell, and a consensual search yielded an additional one-fourth pound of methamphetamine and a .45 caliber handgun. Authorities said the street value of the confiscated drugs is estimated at $33,600.

The investigation was a joint effort involving the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the Roswell Police Department and Atlanta High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA).

Phil Price, commander of the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad, said C-MANS was conducting a related investigation when Aguilar-Lopez was identified as a "major source of supply for Cherokee County."

C-MANS agents learned Aguilar-Lopez would be in Forsyth County and worked with the GBI and Forsyth sheriff's deputies to arrest Aguilar-Lopez.

"Drug dealers often try to exploit the jurisdictional boundaries that law enforcement officers are bound by, but they fail to count on the strong relationships that exist between the C-MANS, the GBI, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and the other agencies fighting drugs in the north metro area," he added.

Forsyth County Sheriff Duane K. Piper also commended the agencies banding together to take Aguilar-Lopez off the streets.

“I am very proud of our cooperation with other agencies in this case and the work our Narcotics Unit does to rid our community of drugs,” he said. “Meth and other dangerous drugs are directly linked to other crimes in Forsyth County, and we’ll continue to do everything we can to eradicate them.”

Aguilar-Lopez is currently being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center with no bond.
