Cherokee Deputies Shoot, Kill Union County Murder Suspect

After receiving a lookout alert from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the suspect was spotted near Holly Springs late Thursday evening.

UPDATE (10:50 a.m.): According to Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Jay Baker, deputies received substantial assistance from the Canton, Woodstock, and Holly Springs police departments during the search. Baker said the departments were extremely helpful when canvassing Swan Lane for the suspect.

ORIGINAL STORY: A Union County double-homicide murder suspect was shot and killed by Cherokee Sheriff's Office deputies late Thursday night.

The sheriff's office received a notification around 10:20 p.m. to be on the look out from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for the suspect in a double homicide in Union County, according to a Sheriff's Office press release.

At around 11 p.m., Cherokee deputies spotted the vehicle that was named in the look out and a traffic stop was conducted on Toonigh Road near Morgan Road in Holly Springs. 

While the suspect was not inside the car, deputies learned the suspect was armed and traveling on foot in the area. They received more information that he suspect could be headed to a residence at 790 Swan Lane near Holly Springs.

Cherokee deputies stationed themselves around Swan Lane and made contact with the suspect at around 1:23 a.m. Friday.

"The suspect displayed a firearm and refused to comply with a deputy’s command to drop the weapon," Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said in the press release. "Both the deputy and the suspect fired their weapons. The suspect was shot and pronounced dead on the scene. The deputy was not harmed."

Officials are not releasing the name of the suspect and is Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the double murder case.
