Canton Police Seize Over $4,000 of Drug Money

An Acworth man was arrested by the Canton Police Department after an officer discovered more than three ounces of suspected methamphetamine.

The Canton Police Department has arrested an Acworth man on trafficking charges after discovering $7,000 worth of suspected methamphetamine and over $4,000 of suspected drug money in his vehicle.

On March 29, Canton Police Officer Campbell stopped a vehicle on Interstate 575 after noticing the vehicle was not maintaining its lane and the driver was not wearing his seat belt.

Upon being pulled over, the driver allegedly gave a false name and produced a fake ID. Authorities say that the man then attempted to flee from Campbell and Corporal Adam Smith. The officers caught the man and he was subsequently identified as Randall Gene Smith, 52, of Acworth.

The officers soon discovered why Smith was so evasive. Further investigation turned up 3.16 ounces of suspected methamphetamine, which has a street value of $7,000 to $10,000. Investigators also discovered $4,184 in cash, which is suspected of being drug money.

Smith was arrested and charged with ten offenses, including trafficking meth, DUI, having an open contaier of alcohol in his vehicle, and driving with a suspended or revoked license.Β
