Canton Police Officers Save Man

At 3:15 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. Michael Hales and Ofc. Ryan Campbell were dispatched to the Canterbury Ridge Apartments. Thomas McDonald wasn't breathing.

Editor's note: The Canton Police Department misidentified one of two officers credited with saving a man's life on Saturday. The officer is Ryan Campbell, not Kenneth Furman.

A 25-year-old Canton man is alive today thanks to the efforts of two officers from the .

Early Saturday morning, Sgt. Michael Hales and Ofc. Ryan Campbell responded to a call of a person down at the Canterbury Ridge Apartments, said Lt. German Rivas, spokesman for the police department.

Inside one of the units, the men found an unrespsonive Thomas McDonald lying on a bed.

Rivas said Hales and Campbell placed McDonald on the floor and performed CPR. He regained consciousness, but stopped breathing after he was turned over on his side.

The officers started CPR again. That stabilized McDonald until emergency personnel arrived to transport him to for additional treatment.

"Thanks to the quick response, the quick action, and the training these officers have received," Rivas said in a statement, "Mr. McDonald was able to survive this experience."
