Canton Man Arrested in GBI Child Sex Sting

A Canton resident was among 14 metro Atlanta residents who were arrested as part of an operation designed to root out suspected child predators.

J. B. Owen, 58, of Canton was arrested and charged with violating the Computer Pornography and Child Exploitation Prevention Act of 1999 as part of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Operation Broken Heart.

The multi-jurisdiction task force arrested the suspects over a four-day period between Wednesday and Sunday. Among the 14 arrested also included a Douglas County elementary school principal.

The suspects range between the ages of 21 and 64 and hold a wide variety of professions, including an educator, engineer, laborer, salesman, business owner, software developer and a musician, the agency said.

Centered in DeKalb County, the operation involved 37 local and statewide agencies, along with the GBI's Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit (CEACC) and the Georgia Information Sharing and Analysis Center (GISAC), the agency said in a news release.
