Canton and Beyond React to Jorelys' Death

What began as a missing-child case ended in a way the filled social media with shock, anger, sadness and prayers.

People in Canton, around Cherokee County, throughout the metro Atlanta area and in the wider world were drawn to the search by the and the for 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera, who went missing from her River Ridge apartment complex in Canton on Friday.

As the search turned from a missing-child case to a suspected abduction, the first-grader gained more attention through Twitter and Facebook.

Those social media erupted with grief, shock and anger as word came out Monday afternoon that not only was Jorelys dead, but she had been beaten and sexually assaulted, then dumped in a trash bin.
