Body Found from Morning Fire

The Canton Fire Department and Cherokee Fire and Emergency Services responded to a structure fire at 445 Knox Bridge Trail.

A body was found Thursday in the remains of an afternoon fire off Highway 20.

and the  responded to the structure fire at 445 Knox Bridge Trail at approximately 12:30 p.m. to find the log home engulfed in flames, said Tim Cavender, spokesman for Cherokee Fire and EMS.

At the time, there were no reported injuries, but the neighbor who reported the incident indicated that someone could have been inside the house, Cavender said.

Cherokee County fire investigator Shane Daniel said the remains of a body were found in the rubble around 6 p.m. The number of residents is unknown.

There aren’t any leads to the cause of the fire.

Daniel's "first priority was there might be someone in there, and that’s what he was checking for first,” Cavender said. “He will remove the body and start the investigative side of it, looking for a cause.”

The identity of the body is under investigation as well.
