An Hour After Burglary, 2 Caught

Anthony Alston, 19, and Robert Goodwin Jr., 24, are from Canton.

Just after 2 a.m. Monday, something triggered the alarm at the Shell Food Mart at 245 Riverstone Pkwy.

When officers from the  arrived on the scene, they noticed signs of forced entry.

Within an hour, two suspects, both of them from Canton, were in police custody. And authorities recovered the beer and cigarettes that the pair allegedly took from the gas station, Det. Candy Worthy said.

"The suspects were apprehended by police when they went to retrieve the stolen goods after storing the stolen items in a nearby wooded area," she said. 

Anthony Alston, 19, and Robert Goodwin Jr., 24, were arrested and each charged with smash and grab burglary.

Both men were in the  Monday night on bonds of $11,200 each, Worthy said.
