After Scrap Metal Thefts, 4 Arrests

All of the suspects are from Canton.

A week after , authorities announced today the capture of four additional men who may have been involved in similar crimes at other businesses.

Sgt. Stacy Bailey, spokeswoman for the , asked that local media not name the businesses "because the detectives think it is advertising for more crimes and thefts to occur.

"Canton Police detectives are currently following up on leads in this and other related cases."

Tuesday and Wednesday, police arrested four men, all of them from Canton. They include: 

  • Michael Harley Taylor, 45, who is charged with two counts of felony theft by taking, one count of misdemeanor theft by taking, and three counts of criminal trespass unlawful purpose.
  • Larry Dustin Wright, 25, who is charged with two counts of felony theft by taking and two counts of criminal trespass unlawful purpose.
  • Stephen Anthony Mercer, 35, who is charged with one count of felony theft by taking and one count of criminal trespass unlawful purpose. He is also being held for the State Board of Pardons and Parole. Mercer was released from prison in February.
  • Daniel Levi Lewis, 24, who is charged with one count of felony theft by taking and one count of criminal trespass unlawful purpose.

The four are currently at the with bonds ranging from nearly $8,000 to more than $17,000.
