202 Marijuana Plants Seized

William Joseph "Jody" Gaddis of Ball Ground was arrested today and charged with manufacturing marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said.

Cherokee County authorities say they have found 202 marijuana plants at the Ball Ground home of a convicted felon.

Lt. Jay Baker said Governor’s Task Force for Drug Suppression helicopter pilots noticed several growing marijuana plants behind Gaddis' residence on Sperin Road.

As they called for assistance, "they saw at least two people run from the home and flee into the woods," Baker said. "A short chase ensued, but the dense undergrowth made it impossible for officers to reach the suspects."

Agents with the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad, a collaborative drug prevention task force that includes the , obtained a search warrant for the home and found 172 plants behind the residence. Inside, there were about 30 additional plants.

Baker estimated the plants have a total value of $242,400.

"CMANS and GBI agents are continuing to pursue leads developed during the search of Gaddis’s home," he said.

Gaddis, 47, remains in custody at the in lieu of $250,000 bail.
