Northside Hospital-Cherokee Recertified as Advanced Primary Stroke Center

After undergoing an on-site evaluation and demonstrating compliance with nationally developed standards for stroke care, Northside Hospital-Cherokee has, once again, been awarded a full two-year Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers by The Joint Commission (TJC).

“Receiving this distinction as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center gives us the opportunity to highlight the exceptional stroke care we provide to our patients,” said Billy Hayes, CEO, Northside Hospital-Cherokee.  “It also celebrates the dedication and hard work of our staff, who built our comprehensive Stroke Program into what it is.”

According to the American Stroke Association, about 795,000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke each year.  It is the nation’s fourth leading cause of death and the leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States.  On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds.

The Northside Hospital Stroke Care Program provides comprehensive care for stroke patients and those at risk, including screening, education, early diagnosis, access to a wide array of state-of-the-art treatment resources and monthly support groups.  Certification by TJC is a voluntary process and this achievement demonstrates that Northside Hospital-Cherokee meets critical elements of performance to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes for stroke patients.
