Liberty Hill United Methodist Church Celebrates Ten Years of Ministry and Mission

When a group of people gathered at the Arts Center in downtown Canton on September 21st, 2003, God had planted in their hearts a dream of a new church. The vision of the leadership of Hillside United Methodist Church was to expand the kingdom of God through the planting of churches in Cherokee county. The first would be Liberty Hill United Methodist Church – a place where abundant life would be realized by engaging people in the life and mission of Jesus.

These loyal and faithful believers had the privilege of writing chapter one of Liberty Hill UMC. Ten years later they are writing chapter two. They are building on the vision of those who planted a church to be a community of faith that loves God and serves their neighbor.

Molly Elkins, one of the founding members, says, “We will continue to do what God calls us to even if that means going to the ends of the earth.” She has constantly lived out that commitment with mission trips to China, creating an adoption ministry, and planning for an upcoming trip to orphanages in Latvia.

Liberty Hill UMC is recognized as a mission-focused community that is passionate about lifting up Christ. Through partnership with many mission organizations the church serves the least of these in the city of Canton and around the world.

The church has two missionaries serving overseas. Courtney Wilson serves in Mexico and Jason and Karen Gosdin and their two children are preparing to serve in the Dominican Republic. The church has an active involvement in Latvia and Kenya.

Liberty Hill UMC truly exemplifies what it means to be a church that loves the unlovable; a church that looks out for the needs of others. It was this vision that attracted the Kasha family. Dawn Kasha states, “Liberty Hill Church is a church that has a heart for the community and it shows.”

On Sunday, September 22nd Liberty Hill UMC will be celebrating ten years of ministry. After the 10:30 A.M. worship service, there will be a bar-b-que lunch and activities for the children. Everyone is invited to join the celebration.

Liberty Hill UMC is anticipating chapter two to be a great adventure. It will require the best as the church embraces God’s vision, exercises their faith, and puts their lives fully at the disposal of God.”

The church meets at 141 Railroad Street, Canton GA 30014. For more information contact the church at 678.493.8920 or info@libertyhillumc.org. Learn more about the church by visiting the website www.libertyhillumc.org
