Toy Run Makes 34th Ride Across Cherokee, Pickens

The 34th annual Hartman Toy Run had several hundred motorcyclists participating, and garnered over 1,000 toys for less fortunate children.

A longstanding tradition of motorcyclists collecting and donating toys to less fortunate children continued last week.

The 2013 Hartman Toy Run took place on Sunday, which was the 34th year of the event. The ride included bikers leaving Kroger on Cumming Highway in Macedonia and making the trek to Canton Moose Lodge Family Center on Marietta Highway.

Riders then made their way northbound to Pickens County. Between 700 and 800 motorcycles took part in the event, said Keith Cline. This year, Po Boy's Car Club donated about 200 toys and 32 bicycles from their October car show.

Cline said toys were dropped off at the Moose Lodge, which were donated to Cherokee County Department of Family and Children Services to be given to less fortunate children in the foster system.

The remaining toys were delivered to Pickens County Chamber of Commerce, which were distributed by the Jasper Lions Club. Each participant contributed at least one toy, so Cline estimated between 1,000 and 2,000 toys were dropped of for children in each county.
