Trash to Tuxedo!

The Grant for Canton campaign had a very busy weekend! On Saturday morning, October 19, the entire committee held a Trash Mob in downtown Canton. Eighteen dedicated volunteers met at the gazebo in Canon Park and proceeded to walk the Historic Downtown Loop to collect over 100 pounds of trash. The event was designed to call attention to the littering problem in Canton and, most importantly, to use the committee's collective energy to do something positive for the city. An assortment of trash was found along Main Street, Waleska Street, Archer Street and Railroad Street; including: a child's superhero costume, a can of soup, hypodermic needles, lots of fast food wrappers and a ton of cigarette butts. Needless to say, the Trash Mob was enlightening and alarming. We plan to hold more Trash Mobs around the city in the future, so please stay tuned.

After getting down and dirty for the trash mob, Bill Grant and several of his committee members donned their formal wear to attend the Nights Under the Lights Ball at the Cherokee Arts Center. The event is an annual fundraiser for the Cherokee Arts Center, and Bill is a big supporter and former President of the Board of Directors. Jeff Brown organized a successful silent auction, and all proceeds will go toward a new lighting system for the main gallery. Congratulations to the Cherokee Arts Center and committee chair, Dyanna Fincher Diggs, for a wonderful event. The Cherokee Arts Center plays a vital role in bringing the arts and culture to our community. Check out all of the great classes and events at www.cherokeearts.org.

After a late night on Saturday, Bill and others attended the Cherokee County Historical Society's annual membership picnic on Sunday afternoon. The weather and setting at the historic Rabbit Hill Farm were perfect. Thanks to the Cherokee County Historical Society for all they do to preserve and protect our heritage. As reflected by the Trash Mob on Saturday, Bill Grant represents a clean start for Canton City Council. He is willing to roll up his sleeves and get the job done. From picking up trash to raising funds for local non-profit organizations, there are many opportunities to be part of the solutions for moving Canton forward. Early voting continues, and we urge you to get your friends, family and neighbors to the polls. For more information about Bill Grant and his platform, please visit www.grantforcanton.com.
