Local leaders have accepted a challenge to each raise $1,000, which would be donated to the Journey of Hope Fund.

The organization is helping families who must travel to Colorado to use the cannabis oil for their children who suffer from the rare seizure disorder. Each family needs about $16,000 for rent and other expenses during the duration of the trip.

A family from Canton — the Lowes — are preparing to make the trip to the state next week so their daughter, 12-year-old Victoria, can get the medical care needed to manage her condition.

Victoria has suffered from seizures her entire life, her mother Corey Lowe said. Lowe will take the trip with her daughter, leaving behind her husband and two sons behind.
