Cherokee High Student Wins Scholarship

Cherokee High School senior Claire Jordan was named the 2014 Oak Leaf Church Scholarship winner.

A Cherokee High School senior will have some help when it comes to paying for her college education.

Claire Jordan, a senior at the school, was recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and superintendent of schools on May 1 as the 2014 Oak Leaf Church Scholarship winner. 

The Cherokee County School Board has a partnership with Oak Leaf Church that specifies the church will award at least one $1,000 scholarship each year to a Cherokee High School senior.

Applications were solicited through the high school counseling staff, the district's website and through local media, and were forwarded to the Oak Leaf Church Scholarship Committee for consideration.  

This committee, consisting of Oak Leaf Church representatives and a district facilitator, reviewed and scored the applications and selected Claire as the winner.

Claire, who will attend the University of Georgia in the fall, has served the community as a member of the Alpha service club during her four years at Cherokee. 

She is a member of the National Honor Society and Leadership 56 and is a co-leader of Girls’ Bible Study.  She has volunteered at Goshen Valley Boys Ranch and on a church mission trip to El Salvador.
