Canton-Based Young Marine Participates in U.N. Conference

Nathan Baker and 19 other Young Marines attended the 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women in New York City.

A member of the Canton-based Gen. Raymond Davis Metro Atlanta Young Marines organization recently participated in the 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women

Nathan Baker joined 19 other youth members to attend the commission, which focused on the "challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls."

The conference was held at the U.N. headquarters in New York city. 

The conference spanned two weeks, and included representatives from U.N. member states, U.N. entities and accredited non-government organizations.  

Along with the conference, the young marines visited cultural sights across the Big Apple.  

The Young Marines is a national youth education and service program for boys and girls between the ages of eight and the completion of high school. 

It promotes the mental, moral and physical development of its members, and focuses on teaching the "values of leadership, teamwork and self-discipline so its members can live and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle."
