Community Corner

Chinese Lantern Festival

January 31st marks the start of the Chinese New Year—and
2014 just happens to be the year of the horse. To celebrate, CCAS is marking
the occasion by doing something for our own horses. Several groups of horses
and livestock have been impounded over the past year, and CCAS has had to
create a pasture or find fosters to help care for these animals.

Because of the overwhelming need, it has become evident that the shelter needs a barn. Fundraising has already begun toward a small 4-6 stall pole barn to be built on existing shelter property, and the shelter needs the help of the community to raise the funds.

At 6:30 pm on February 15th (weather permitting), CCAS will be holding a traditional Chinese Lantern Festival as a way to honor the memory of pets or loved ones who have passed away, and to also raise money for the animals currently in our care. If you would like to participate, lanterns will be available for a $5 donation. The lighting of the lanterns will take place adjacent to the shelter.

If you would like to reserve a lantern for the Lantern Festival, please stop by the shelter or mail in your $5 donation for each lantern and include the name(s) of each lost pet or loved one.

If you would like to contribute to the barn
fundraising efforts you can mail donations to Cherokee County Animal
Shelter at 1015 Univeter Rd Canton, GA 30115 or you can donate via Paypal
on our website. Please specify that
your donation be used for “The Barn” to be sure your contribution makes it
to the project.

Volunteers are also selling recycled totes for "barn raising" donations.

Cherokee County Animal Shelter appreciates the
support and would especially appreciate if everyone would SHARE with
family, friends, coworkers and neighbors so that we can build our barn in
2014.
