Cherokee Bar Takes State Honors

Lawyers in Cherokee County were honored by the State Bar of Georgia for their Law Day and website.

The Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit Bar Association, which covers Cherokee County, walked away with two honors at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the State Bar of Georgia. The local bar received state honors for its Law Day 2012 program and its website. Each year, the State Bar of Georgia awards those local bar associations that best serve and inform the community.

Ever May 1, the Blue Ridge Circuit Bar Association celebrates Law Day with a host of activities celebrating the rule of law with the community at large. This year's activities included a reception between the bench and bar, a mock trial for elementary students, speaking engagements in local middle and high schools, service projects in the community, and a capstone luncheon with the Canton Rotary Club featuring Speaker of the House David Ralston, Whit Frost, Ginger Wentz and Kristine Fletcher. The Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit has a 30-year tradition as a perennial award winner.

In addition, the Blue Ridge Bar Association was awarded honors for it website. The circuit website offers resources to both practicing lawyers and the public to help with access to the courts. Lara Schuster took charge of the website in 2011 and the site has been recognized by the state bar two years in a row.
