Resident: Biello, Duncan Support Gun Rights

Tony Syracuse says Georgia Gun Owners, Inc. mislead members into believing Jeff Duncan and Meagan Biello do not support the Second Amendment.

Editor's note: the following is a letter to the editor from Cherokee County resident Tony Syracuse.

Dear editor,

I am a no compromising, Second Amendment supporter. I conceal-carry daily, shoot three gun competition, sporting clays, hunt and as of late, have gotten into bench rest shooting. As every gun owner knows. we are constantly under attack from the likes of Diane Feinstein, Michael Bloomberg, Kasim Reed, etc., collectively known as the anti-gunner or gun grabbers.

On Monday Jan. 6, 2014, the day before a special election involving Jeff Duncan, Megan Biello, Nate Cochran and Sam Moore, I saw a post on Facebook by Georgia Gun Owners Inc., claiming that Sam Moore was the only candidate to fill out his survey 100 percent for Second Amendment rights. They claimed Jeff Duncan and Megan Biello had refused to send back their surveys. I knew both Biello and Duncan supported our stance, so I wanted to make sure the membership was informed correctly.

Both candidates claim they had not received the survey from Georgia Gun Owner’s Inc. Being a member of Georgia Gun Owners, I contacted GGO Executive Director Patrick Parson and told them that Duncan had not received the survey, that he is on our side and gave him his contact information.

Parson refused to send the survey, insisted that I "tell him to email us." After multiple requests from Duncan and myself for GGO to send him the survey, they finally responded, claiming Duncan had sent them a bad email address. Yet all Parson had to do was reply to the email thread all of us were on.

At this point, I was in complete disbelief that my organization would play games with two candidates on our side. I asked Parson to send me the survey. After numerous request and only after I threatened to go public, he finally sent it to me.

Duncan promptly filled out the survey demonstrating his support and even after this, Parson refused to inform our membership. I merely asked Parson to update the Facebook page, and send out an email telling the truth. Parson claimed my request cost too much money, and he had no problem misrepresenting candidates’ positions on our issues.

Duncan has been fighting for Second Amendment rights since before Moore and Parson were barely out of high school. Biello’s father-in-law — former Cherokee County Commissioner JJ Biello — was a police officer who was shot in the line of duty, and Biello vehemently stands with us.

This is another clear example of the good ol' boy, dishonest politics that is hurting Cherokee County and our country. If elected, the tactics employed by Moore and/or his supporters call into question his integrity.

On behalf of honest gun owners, I apologize to both Biello and Duncan and the Cherokee County voters for the false and misleading information that perpetrated by my group.

Sincerely,

Tony Syracuse
