State to Interview Cherokee Charter Academy

1. In a , Cherokee Charter Academy officials announced they were pursuing a new route: approval as a "state special charter school." It is one of the charter's last hopes for opening on Aug. 1 after the Supreme Court of Georgia denied a motion that asked the justices to . In the letter, Cherokee Charter Academy officials also said an interview with the Georgia Department of Education was scheduled for today. But the head of the state's charter schools division said Tuesday that the date wasn't firm. "Our staff will be conducting private interviews with Commission schools this week," director Louis Erste wrote in an email to Canton-Sixes Patch. "The State Board meeting is only tentative and we'll let you know when the date is formally set."
