Rain, High Winds Heading This Way

There is a moderate risk for tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail today, according to a briefing released by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Division of Emergency Management.

Along with predicted showers and possibly severe thunderstorms today, the National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for many Georgia counties, including Cherokee.

The storm, which is forecast to move on overnight, could bring between a quarter and half of an inch of rainfall.

Winds are predicted to be between 20 and 25 mph, with some gusts climbing to 35 mph.

“The strong winds may knock down tree limbs and displace small objects,” the National Weather Service advisory says. “Secure loose outdoor items. In addition, driving may become difficult, especially in high-profile vehicles. Use caution while driving.” 

The wind advisory is in effect until 7 p.m.
