Morning Briefing: Who Will Follow Chip Rogers?

Here is what's going on around Canton this Wednesday.

1. Weather: There is a 60 percent chance of showers before 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Once the rain subsides, the high temperature should reach roughly 67 degrees today. Tonight's low should be around 48, with a 20 percent chance of showers.

2. In Case You Missed It: Sen. Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) is stepping down from his post in the state senate. Read who he has tapped to replace him and what he plans to do with his career now that his days as an elected official are behind him.

Canton Tea Party chair Carolyn Crosby has 14 days to respond to claims of inappropriate campaigning or face a $12,000 fine from the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission. Learn what Crosby and the Tea Party did that raised eyebrows and brought forth the challenge.

3. Happening Now: Are male and female teachers who are accused of inappropriate conduct with students treated differently? The recent case of Blake Bearden may show an interesting double standard in societal perceptions of this crime. Add your voice to the conversation!

4. Looking Ahead: A year ago today, the body of Jorelys Rivera was found after a three-day search for the girl had proven fruitless. The Canton Police Department received criticism for its handling of the case, and Chief Jeff Lance resigned because of the fallout. One year on, what has the department learned from the case that has made it better prepared for any possible future situations like Jorelys'? Come back at noon to find out.

5. On This Date in History: On Dec. 5, 1775, Gen. Henry Knox arrived at Ft. Ticonderoga, NY to begin transporting the fort's heavy artillery and other supplies to support the Siege of Boston. Over three months, Knox moved 60 tons of equipment from New York to Massachusetts. This "noble train of artillery" was a decisive factor in the British abandonment of Boston on March 17, 1776.
