On This Date in History: On Dec. 10, 1941, Britain's Royal Navy got an unwelcome surprise when Japanese torpedo bombers sank the battleships HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse in the Pacific Ocean. The loss of these two battleships along with the attack on Pearl Harbor three days earlier helped convince Allied leaders that air power was now the decisive factor in navail warfare.
