After Cop's Firing, Canton Faces Threat of Litigation

Find out what's coming up on Canton-Sixes Patch today and what you might have missed overnight.

1. Todd Vande Zande, who temporarily took the helm of the after the agency faced widespread criticism for its role in the search of 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera, was fired Monday. , Atlanta lawyer Lance J. LoRusso said in a letter to the mayor, the city manager, the new police chief and all six members of the Canton City Council.

LoRusso wrote in the letter that Vande Zande would "immediately seek injunctive and other relief through the Superior Court of Cherokee County against the City of Canton and individually against Wood and Merchant" if he was terminated. It's not clear if that happened.

"We are disappointed with the actions taken by the City of Canton today and we are considering all legal options," LoRusso said. "At the present time, I have not heard from any city official or any attorneys representing the City of Canton. Therefore, I believe it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."
