Chi Xi and GA-EPH Volunteers to Spruce Up Local Playground

On Wednesday, August 7, and Saturday, August 10, members of the Chi Xi Chapter of the National Honor Society and volunteers from the Georgia Enrichment Program for Homeschoolers (GA-EPH) will gather at 1370 Lockhart Drive in Kennesaw to renovate the nearby playground.

The GA-EPH, a local non-profit educational organization established in 2004, has recently moved to a new larger location at Lockhart Drive, where it now offers over 50 classes open to homeschooled students. For more information about GA-EPH, you can visit their website, http://www.ga-eph.org.

The local playground, while large, is also littered with sharp rocks, metal shrapnel, and other debris. Volunteers will spend ten hours (8:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday and 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on Sunday) raking, washing, cleaning, mulching, and painting to make the play area both safe and beautiful.

You can help, too! Any materials will serve as great support for the volunteers, but here is a list of supplies and equipment that are especially important, according to GA-EPH Program Director Teri Verhine:

Supplies:

Roundup
Mulch
Ant killer
Bleach
Gloves
Tarps
Deck Stain
Brushes
Paint rollers
Paint pan
Masonry glue

Equipment:

Rakes
Pressure Washer
Wheel barrow
Shovels
Belt Sander w/60 grit paper
Extension cords
UPDATE:
Unfortunately, due to lack of volunteers, the service project schedule has changed. The Wednesday, August 7 renovations have been canceled. On Sunday, August 10, the hours have been shortened: the project will take place between 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
