Cherokee Warriors shut down Sequoyah 34 - 14

THE FLAT was the stage for friday nights battle between cross town foes in Canton.  It was another hot, muggy evening as we all wait patiently for fall to bring some chilly football weather.  Both teams headed into friday night after winning convincingly in week one match-ups.
Sequoyah got on the board first with a TD run by Junior WR Adam Patterson (13).  Sequoyah missed the extra point and finished the 1st quarter in the lead 6-0.  Cherokee scored a couple of touchdown in the second half to go ahead 14-6 with just under 7 minutes left in the half on 2 TD runs by Senior RB Blake Johnston (5).  Sequoyah countered after a Cherokee muffed snap on a punt gave the ball to Sequoyah on the one yard line with a TD run by Senior QB Lex Lauletta (14) and after a successful 2 point conversion the half ended tied 14-14.
In what appeared to be a battle that would go on all night,  Cherokee made some adjustments and defensively would give up no more points this evening.

During Halftime both bands entertained the crowds as they continue to build their performances up to full strength as the year progresses.  They will continue on after the football season with their own competitions.

The third quarter was a defensive battle as both teams settled in and played some hard nosed football on both sides.  Cherokee punched in a score midway through the quarter on a run by Junior QB Spencer Ashley (4) and after a missed extra point Cherokee and Sequoyah headed into the 4th quarter with Cherokee ahead 20 - 14.
The 4th quarter was all Cherokee as Sophomore RB  Brittain Brown (28) scored on a TD run with just under 11 minutes left and then later picked up a fumble recovery on defense and ran the ball in for another score.  Cherokee finished the night with a satisfying win 34 - 14.
Cherokee savored a (2-0) start for the first time in a few years and Sequoyah falls to (1-1).
Cherokee moves on to play underfeated and unscored upon North Forsyth (2-0) on September 13th at the Home Opener and unveiling of the new Warriortron.
Sequoyah with have a week off before traveling to Riverwood High School (2-0) on September 20.
