Good News from Sixes Elementary School

Sixes Elementary School celebrates Girl Scout Week and Exceptional Children's Week, inducts new Beta Club members and welcomes guest readers!

Sixes Elementary School recently celebrated Exceptional Children's Week to promote and educate students on various disabilities.

Kindergarten through third-grade students experienced visual, hearing and fine motor skill impairments through various hands-on activities.  Kindergarteners also were visited by therapy dogs, Chase and Indy, and their handler, Linda Jones, who explained how the dogs help people in hospitals, schools and nursing homes.  First-graders also met Patti Pruitt, a visually impaired children's author, who showed students the tools that help her function in her daily life.  Fourth-graders learned about intellectual disabilities, such as Down Syndrome, and fifth-graders learned about dyslexia.

In celebration of Girl Scout Week, Sixes Elementary's Girl Scout troops recently honored all of the school’s staff who had been members of the organization in their childhood.
