Review: The Corner Bistro

On the menu: French Dip, coleslaw and sweet potato fries

Tucked behind Wendy’s and across from Kroger’s is this little bistro that serves breakfast all day, every day. This is important to remember because sometimes you may just want breakfast though it’s in the middle of the day. Hey, there are legitimate reasons for that kind of hunger—and I can truly relate. However, and more importantly, seems like the kind of place that you instantly add to your favorites and can’t wait to tell your friends about it.

They have an irresistible approach: “If you don’t love it (your order), they will make you something else.” And to make sure the customer does in fact love what they have ordered, the owner-operator checks in to make sure the customers are happy.  From the moment I walked in, I felt a good vibe from the environment and the menu.

The soups are made fresh daily and are reasonably priced at $2.25 (cup), and $3.50 (bowl); both served with bread or crackers. There are 11 salad selections: straightforward and homey, where anyone of them could become your daily favorite if you lived or worked nearby. Take the Greek Salad for example—a generous bed of crisp Romaine with tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, Feta, peppers and a scoop of Greek potato salad and a grilled Pita ($5.50). You couldn’t make it at home for that price. The same goes for the Chicken Caesar ($6.95) and the other salad selections.  Around the menu you will find three variations of Quesadillas: Chicken Fajita, Chicken and Cheese, and a Vegetable one that range in price from $6.95-7.50.

Among the sandwich choices you will most likely find one of your favorites. There is the BBQ Pulled Pork, the Classic BLT, a Club, Chicken and Tuna Salad Melt, the French Dip, two Reubens—the regular and Georgia-style (made with hot turkey instead of corned beef), Grilled Cheese, Gyro, Italian Chicken Sub, Patty Melt and a Philly Cheese Steak. These sure-to-please-the lunch-crowd selections range in price from $6.95-7.50.

I chose the French Dip ($7.50). The toasted French bread was packed with tender, juicy, succulent roast beef, melted Provolone cheese with horseradish and dipping au jus on the side. My accompanying “sides” were coleslaw and sweet potato fries (oh, yeah). That and a tall container of iced tea presented a perfect, casual, no frills lunch that was deeply satisfying.

The Corner Bistro’s menu of wraps given your choice of wheat, tomato basil, spinach or regular flour tortillas is just another way of delivering a wholesome lunch with a wide variety of fillings—the combinations go as far as your imagination. Ten basics: Grilled Chicken, Chicken Fajita, Southwest Chicken, Grilled Chicken, Tuna Salad, Buffalo Chicken, Grilled Portobello, Grilled Vegetables, regular Veggie and a California Turkey, with a line-up of fillings that are sure to complement the main attraction.

Be Your Own Boss

From the Deli section, you can build your own sandwich for $7.25. Here you can choose your favorite breads: Croissants, Hoagie rolls, Kaiser rolls, Multi-grain, Sour Dough, Wheat or Rye. The tortillas for the wraps as mentioned before include white, tomato basil, wheat and spinach. Dress up the main attractions--the Chicken Salad, Tuna Salad, Egg Salad, Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef, Corned Beef or Pastrami with veggies, cheeses and all sorts of condiments. Create the perfect sandwich just the way you like it. With that approach, everyone is happy.

Bring the kids for PB&J, Grilled Cheese, Chicken Fingers and Quesadillas and stay for the family friendly atmosphere that is bright and welcoming. Weather permitting, outside seating adds to the “bistro” feel to the place.

Aside from the breakfast and lunch trade, The Corner Bistro also offers catering services and free delivery within a three-mile radius. Call to arrange for quick pick up orders if you are in a hurry.
