Review: Bedoe’s Bar and Grille

On the menu: Black and Bleu Burger and chili

Tucked behind Walgreen’s on Hickory Flat Highway you will find a fun neighborhood sports bar and full service restaurant, Bedoe’s Bar and Grille. This place is serious about getting you connected to your favorite sports programs with more than 36 TVs around the space and one in each booth. It’s a family friendly restaurant with the bar separated from the main dining area so that moms and dads can enjoy a meal with the kids in a more “home-like” atmosphere. I am told that the kids can tune in to the Cartoon Network at the booth while parents can check into their favorite sports on the big screens.

The menu offers a wide array of selections and numerous specials during the week. The daily lunch specials includes such dishes as Soup and Sandwich with your choice of Grilled Cheese, BLT, Ham or Turkey and the Soup of the Day, Chicken Burritos, hot dogs and Buffalo Shrimp Wrap all for $4.99. For $5.99, you can choose from the Classic Burger, Chopped Steak, Meatloaf Sandwich and Soup and Salad, or you can go for the Express Pasta (Chicken Alfredo, or two Penne dishes) or the Shrimp Po Boy all served with pasta salad or coleslaw and fries. If you desire the Fish and Chips served with fries or kettle chips, it can be yours for a reasonable price of $7.99.

The Sunday Brunch is also a hearty array of tummy-filling dishes with Belgian waffles, sausage burritos, steaks, biscuits and gravy, french toast and, of course, eggs, bacon and all the sides and toppings. The prices are quite reasonable, easy on the budget and sure to satisfy.

I ordered the Black and Bleu Burger, a char-grilled, ¼ pound ground beef patty spiced with chili and bleu cheese ($7.99) and a cup of chili¾a 20-year-old family recipe ($2.99). The chili was thick, meaty, hearty and quite good. The burger was more than ample in size, topped with tangy bleu cheese, tomato, lettuce and onion. I thoroughly enjoyed the burger as it hit all the right taste buds.

There is enough on the menu to please everyone in the family or your group of friends. Aside from sports entertainment, Bedoe’s has specials every night of the week along with activities like Bingo, Ladies Night, Senior specials, Game Trivia, Bloody Mary Specials and Long Island Ice Teas all at reduced prices. With some restrictions, kids can eat free on special nights. Check with the hostess when you arrive or check out all the activities from their website.

Look forward to outdoor seating in the spring and summer and a host of events in association with Harmony on the Lake community. But in the meantime, check the website or call for holiday hours and the anticipated arrival of Santa Claus. I hear Santa loves the food there. So will you.
