R&M Sandwich Shop to Stay Open

The owners of the downtown landmark announced in March that they were putting the building up for sale.

The owners of , who , have decided to keep the hoagie spot open, according to a post on the business' Facebook page.

"Yesterday the family made the commitment to keep my parents dream alive and keep the Hoagie Shop open," Mike DeLuca wrote on Thursday. 

DeLuca's mother and late father started R&M on March 20, 1972.

The shop has struggled in recent years as downtown Canton lost anchors such as the and the .

DeLuca said in March that if there weren't any buyers of the building that houses the sandwich shop, eventually it would close.

But Thursday, he wrote that he had "a new excitement I haven't had in along time."
