As a region, metro Atlanta's unemployment rate rose from 10.3 percent in July to 10.4 percent in August.

"The rate increased because there were more layoffs in construction, trade, administrative and support services, and accommodation and food services," State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said in a news release.
