Canton McDonald's Picked to Launch New, Healthy Happy Meals

Area locations will be among the first in the country to sell Happy Meals featuring apple slices and a kid's size fry.

McDonald's has selected Canton as one of the markets to launch a new, healthy Happy Meal.

"All local Canton McDonald's will become some of the first in the U.S. to sell a brand new Happy Meal featuring apple slices and a kid's size fry in every box," Meghan Callahan said Monday on behalf of the Greater Atlanta McDonald's Operators Association.

The fast-food chain will roll out the new version of the popular kids meal on Friday with a buy one, get one free promotional from 2 to 7 p.m. That "Happy Meal Happy Hour" promotion will continue everyday until Sept. 22.

"With the new Happy Meal," association president Donavon Groen said, "we're helping support parents in encouraging their children to enjoy food that is good for them along with the foods they love by automatically including both apples and fries as part of a balanced, kid-appropriate meal.

"We're excited this new offering will introduce about 100 million cups of produce annually into the diets of our youngest customers."
