Bites Nearby: El Ranchero

Its deserved reputation for authentic Mexican fare has kept it in business for more than 15 years.

Overview: There are several Mexican restaurants in the area, but only a few are staples. is one of those spots. Located in the Towne Lake Village Center, its reputation for authentic Mexican fare has kept it in business for more than 15 years. Expect a wait on weekend nights. It will be worth it.

Décor: The restaurant has an inviting and comfortable feel. There are several booths and tables in two sections of the establishment. A waiting area in front is big enough for the overflow of customers. On special occasions, a mariachi band will come and sing for you. It's a fun place for sure.

Entrees: I love the camarones a la diabla, which is a plate of spicy shrimp served with rice and avocados. Fill a flour tortilla with this delicious shrimp and you will be in heaven. If you like a little less spice, go for the nachos with chicken. El Ranchero also has several vegetarian selections, soups and salads. Make sure to leave room for some sopapillas. For the uninitiated, they're fried flour tortillas with honey, cinnamon and sugar. Entrees range from $6 to $10.
