CCSD Class of 2013 Sets Records in ACT Scores, Participation
More than half of last year's senior class took the ACT, and they trounced the state and national average scores.
The Cherokee County School District (CCSD) has set another testing benchmark, once again topping national and state averages on a widely-used college admission exam.
The Class of 2013 continued their record-setting marks on the ACT, besting the district's records in both aggregate score and number of seniors taking the exam.
According to a memo sent out by Superintendent Dr. Frank R. Petruzielo, 1,283 seniors, or 51 percent of the Class of 2013, took the rigorous test alongside or in place of the SAT in 2013.
The average score for CCSD seniors in 2013 was 22.7, soundly topping the national average of 20.9 and the state average of 20.7.
Petruzielo said that the Class of 2013's accomplishments on the ACT are even more impressive in light of austerity cuts and the accompanying bigger class sizes and shorter 2012-13 school year.
"Our primary mission is teaching and learning," Petruzielo said, "and no matter the obstacles that may be put in our path, we will continue to push for progress to ensure that every student gains the knowledge needed to succeed after graduation both in college and in their careers."

For the Class of 2014, the ACT will be given on Sept. 21, Oct. 26, Dec. 14, and Feb. 8, 2014. Seniors who wish to obtain preparatory help for the exam may see their school counselors.
