Books Collected in Cherokee County Heading to Schools Devastated by Tornado

A large trailer full of books donated by Cherokee County residents will be headed to the tornado-devastated town of Moore, OK.

Public schools in Moore, OK devastated by a F5 tornado in May will soon receive some new books, courtesy of Cherokee County residents.

Joseph Stewart and his wife Donna, teachers at Cherokee High School in Canton and owners of Book Browser bookstore in Woodstock, organized the book donation drive after a friend who is a retired teacher asked Joseph what he was going to do to help the schools in Oklahoma.

Stewart reached out to school authorities in Moore, and was advised on what books were needed and how best to deliver any books donated.

Books donated to Moore will be given mostly to Briarwood, Plaza Towers and Highland East, an official with Moore Public Schools told the Cherokee Ledger.

Next Thursday, the Stewarts will leave for Oklahoma with a large trailer full of books.
"Just wanted to say thanks to all that helped us with our book drive to support Moore Public schools," wrote the Stewarts in an e-mail to their colleagues at the Cherokee County School District on Friday.
