Lil Wayne Visits Canton

Did one of the biggest rap stars in the world skip the BET Hip Hop Awards after-parties to skate at Progressive Skatepark?

A picture of multi-platinum rapper Lil Wayne surfaced today on the Facebook page of Progressive Skatepark, which is located at 1153 Marietta Hwy.

"It's pretty crazy," owner Mike DeLuca told Canton-Sixes Patch this afternoon. "Every city he goes to, he skateboards. He was coming to Atlanta and his people called me."

Hip-hop's biggest stars were in town on Saturday for the BET Hip Hop Awards, which was taped at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center.

On his official Twitter page, the man behind the careers of Drake and Nicki Minaj wrote: "Hey man I will not be at any party tonight in atl. I'll be sk8'n and working on songs as usual. Sorry for the misunderstanding."

Around midnight, Lil Wayne walked inside the Canton skatepark, where he stayed for two hours.

"He's just a guy that loves skateboarding wherever he can get away from it all," DeLuca said. "The guy's got a passion for skating like not a whole lot of people I see. That's what he loves to do. That's what he wants to do."

Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, is no stranger to metro Atlanta. His ex-wife, Toya Wright, lives in the area with their tween daughter. Both have starred in two BET reality shows, Tiny & Toya and Toya: A Family Affair.

R&B singer Nivea, who has a son with Carter, also lives in Atlanta.

"Having the #1 rapper in the world hanging out in Canton is pretty cool," DeLuca wrote on his Facebook page at 2:47 a.m. Sunday.
