What's Canton Saying About Alleged Attempted Abduction?

Residents of Canton have heightened concerns about the safety of their children after a man allegedly attempt to abduct three young girls from Parc Drive on March 2.

When the news broke on Thursday, the reaction was immediate.

"Parents: please watch your children get on and off the bus, or arrange with a trusted adult EVERY DAY," wrote Canton-Sixes Patch Facebook user Amy Delgado Liles. "Children are taken EVERY DAY you never know what kind of psycho is watching them!!"

On the Canton-Sixes Patch page itself, one person wondered why it took five days for authorities to inform the public about the incident.

"As a mom of a 5th grader who lives in that area, I have to ask why did it take almost a week to get out?" wondered "concerned mom of 2."

Stephen Shelnutt left a Facebook comment regarding the method of the alleged abductor; according to the girls that were the supposed target of the kidnapping, the man leaped from his vehicle and began chasing after the girls.

"Seriously? This guy is jumping out of his car to chase children? He might be the worst and least inconspicuous kidnapper ever," Shelnutt opined. "Hopefully a suspect will be in custody by next week."

Unfortunately, the man has yet to be caught, but it isn't for a lack of trying. One unlucky Canton-Sixes Patch reader who works the graveyard shift has had one run in too many with Johnny Law because of the abduction attempt.

"I've been pulled over twice for this because I am one of the unfortunate people that work overnights at my work," wrote user "Dave" on Friday. "And according to the police I fit the description. And it's getting quite annoying being pulled over for it every time I'm coming home from a 10 hr overnight shift."

As stated in the original article, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office has released the following description of the man and his vehicle:

The suspect is being described as a white male in his late twenties or early thirties, of average build and height, and with dark hair. The man's car is described as a 2000s model silver, four door passenger car, possibly an Audi, Volkswagen Jetta, or Honda, with tinted windows and scratches and dents on the body. The last three numbers of the car's license plate may be 6-9-7.

Anyone who sees the man or the vehicle is urged to call 911 immediately.
