A Day of Gratitude

Local members of the military discussed the significance of Veterans Day during Saturday's American Legion's Parade in Downtown Canton.

Other Veterans Day commemorations in Canton today

  • will honor family members of students and teachers who served in the military. The program will begin at 8:15 a.m. today in the school gym. A reception will follow.
  • Grady A. Gayton will be the guest speaker at 's Veterans Day program, scheduled for 9 a.m. today in the school gym. "Gayton entered into the U.S. Army at age 18 and has dedicated 35 years of his life to the military," spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said. "He is currently serving in the Georgia National Guard as Command Sergeant Major/E9. From 1976 to the present, Grady has spent much of his time attending many special military schools, courses, trainings and he has earned many decorations during his career such as medals, ribbons, and badges."
  • Thomas M. Brady Jr. American Legion Post 45 will host its annual Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. this morning at the Cherokee County Fairgrounds, 160 McClure St., Canton. Veterans and the general public are invited to attend.
