Tornado Warning Expires for Cherokee County

A severe thunderstorm warning has taken its place and will expire at 2:15 p.m.

UPDATE (1:33 p.m.): The tornado warning for Cherokee County has been allowed to expire by the National Weather Service. In its place, a severe thunderstorm warning has been issued. This warning will expire at 2:15 p.m.

UPDATE (1:25 p.m.): The tornado watch for Cherokee County has been extended to 8 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY: Cherokee County is under a tornado warning until 1:30 today, says the National Weather Service.

According to the warning, at 12:41 p.m. doppler radar picked up a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado moving at 65 mph that was nine miles southwest of Dallas.

Canton is in the path of this storm. Cantonites are urged to move indoors and to the basement or an interior room without windows.

Canton and Cherokee County will remain under a tornado watch until 4:00 p.m.
