School Spokeswoman Has County's 1st Baby of '12

"I didn't think he actually would be" the first baby of the New Year, Cherokee County School District spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said.

Cherokee County's first baby of the year is Charles "Charlie" Homer Jacoby, the son of spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby and Michael Jacoby.

"Everyone who guessed we would end up with the first baby of 2012 should buy a lottery ticket," Jacoby wrote in a message on the website of the Rotary Club of Canton.

Barbara Jacoby was actually due on Dec. 30, but friends and family joked that Charlie would be the first baby of the New Year.

Dr. Michael Litrel of Cherokee Women’s Health Specialists wore a “Happy New Year” top hat during the delivery, hospital spokeswoman Katherine Watson said in a news release this morning.

Charlie joins big brother, J. Henry, who is 21 months old. He was born at Northside Hospital-Cherokee, too.

“I dream of taking them on adventures,” said Michael Jacoby, a freelance photographer. “Doing boy stuff.”

To mark the occasion, Northside gave the family a giant diaper cake as well as an elephant plush toy. Our365, the hospital’s newborn photography service, donated a gift certificate for a free photo package.

"We're so happy he's finally here," Barbara Jacoby wrote on the Rotary Club's website. She is the group's president.
