Ride for Motorcycle Safety on Saturday in Canton

The Kevin P. Mahurin Motorcycle Awareness Foundation will hold its fifth-annual memorial ride on Saturday.

The Kevin P. Mahurin Motorcycle Awareness Foundation on Saturday will hold its 5th annual Memorial Ride in Canton.

The ride will be held Saturday July 13 and will start and end at Hooters in Canton. Registration is at 9 a.m. and kick stands will go up at 10 a.m. The cost is $25 per bike and the escorted ride will take around an hour and 15 minutes to complete.

Proceeds from the ride will go towards motorcycle awareness and safety education.

The organization was created by former Cherokee County Commissioner Karen Bosch, who lost her son Kevin Mahurin in 2008 to a motorcycle accident.

Along with motorcycle awareness and education, Bosch has also lobbied the Cherokee County legislative delegation to consider introducing stricter licensing for motorcycle drivers.

In October, the Governor's Office Of Highway Safety (GOHS) in Georgia awarded a $25,000 grant to the foundation, which was used to develop books that teach motorcycle safety to children ages 8 to 12.
