5. On This Date in History: On Feb. 5, 1985, the mayors of two warring cities came together in friendship to sign a treaty that formally ended hostilities between the two sides. The mayors of Rome, Italy and Carthage, Tunisia, officially concluded the Third Punic War, which had not seen active combat since Rome sacked Carthage and burned the city to the ground over a 17-day period in 146 BC.
